Reasons for trip

These welcoming tea rooms with such friendly staff who serve scrumptious food stand in a lovely location in Chantry Place, alongside the River Wansbeck, close to the large Carlisle Park (which has many good walks) and the town centre.

Just one step takes you through the entrance to the tea rooms. The fresh, appealing décor is predominately lavender and white which sets of the wooden flooring.

We popped in for lunch. Although this is a popular place to eat and it was busy, we were attended to as soon as we entered. We found the service to be excellent, the staff here are ever so friendly, nothing is too much trouble. As soon as we sat down we were given a menu, although it was the blackboard we ordered from. Our order was taken quickly and our food arrived soon after.

The food was as impressive as the service. It was good, home cooked food. To start with we both enjoyed Lentil and vegetable soup. As a main course I choose tomato onion and red pepper Quiche with a crispy extra fresh side salad. My husband enjoyed a baked potato filled with home made coleslaw and a slice of leek and bacon quiche and a side salad. The Almond Brownie with ice cream looked tempting as did the Blackcurrant Sponge with white chocolate but we were too full after the generous first and second courses so we settled for a pot of tea.

Vegetarians and those requiring gluten free food are catered for.

This is a lovely quaint tea room, in a historical part of town, opposite The medieval Chantry building which houses a craft shop tourist information centre and museum. Prices are competitive, service is great and the food is lovely. I would thoroughly recommend this tea room.
