Finally got to eat out and had a lovely evening meal at the Cellar in Aberaeron, our lovely harbour town in Cardigan Bay. At this time, meals could only be booked for outside in the marquee (with the ends open of course) but it was a lovely sunny evening so we got the best table for the last bit of warm sunshine.
We had forgotten how excellent the food is. Their famous garlic mushrooms in a gruyere cheese sauce is still as good as ever, as well as the big fat tempura prawns for our starters. Hmm, difficult choice for the mains but in the end I had roast chicken with parsnip sauce and Leslie had the delicate sea bass. All beautifully presented and a feeling of a ‘fine dining’ night out. Not our usual choice, but choosing the bottle of dry rosé wine seemed to be a perfect match. At £18.50 a bottle not bad at all.
The restaurant is fully open again now, although booking is a must. There is a lot of work going on with what was the Monachty pub and restaurant next door, and by 2022 it will be one big hotel/ restaurant/ bar complex.
