The perfect place for a weekend getaway, winter or summer. In summer you sit out on the terrace only a few feet from the beach, in winter you sit in the lounge or dining room, nice and warm watching the sea and the crazy fishermen in their fishing tents. Wonderful walks along the seafront, as far as Thorpeness with its quirky man made boating pool, and the unique House in the Clouds – built as a water tower in 1923, disguised for aesthetic reasons as a five-storey house!.
The hotel has recently been refurbished, but fortunately the owners have chosen to retain the laid back open, airy seaside style of decor. The rooms are not massive, the best ones are with sea view, but the marsh views across the countryside are fine as well. Everything you need is there, the restaurant is good (sometimes choices a little limited, especially in the winter months) the lounge is comfortable, and the location, on the beach and on the edge of Aldeburgh Town which is one of the nicest in Suffolk, is unbeatable. Staff are friendly and helpful, and the surrounding countryside includes Aldeburgh Moot Hall, Snape Maltings, Sizewell Power Station, Tunstall Forest, and a host of attractions to make a weekend, or even a week, worth considering.
