Reasons for trip

The sedate white frontage of this pub doesn’t hit you in the face as you walk along Fore Street in Looe, Cornwall. It is quite understated with its modern and sleek black swan sign and is right on the street, with no forecourt. However, the food does stand out and the service was excellent. Inside the pub is modern as well and quite bright. Dogs are welcome. There are no steps so easy access if in a wheelchair.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and were not disappointed. Three of us chose to have the hot breakfast (two small and one regular) and one of us had the child’s portion meat pie. The pie was a portion of a large pie, not an individual pie, and it was served with lovely chips, cabbage and carrots with gravy on the side. The breakfasts hit the spot with nicely cooked bacon, sausage, mushroom, egg and beans. The smaller portions were just right for those of us with smaller appetites. The bitter shandy was nice too.

We had just been to the tourist office along the quay and picked up the free bag of brochures so spent time during and after lunch perusing the pamphlets to narrow down what we wanted to do over the next week of our holiday. There was quite a noisy group of women drinking just over from us who appeared to be on a hen night and had an early start on the booze. Other than a couple of men at the bar the pub was relatively empty as it was after the lunch time rush.

If you’re spending some time in Looe and wandering around the shops and river, it’s a good place to stop for a bite to eat. Normally I’d include the website but it’s under construction.
