The Ampersand Hotel

We were so looking forward to the afternoon tea experience at the Ampersand Hotel, it looked so good online. It was expensive but going to be a special treat. No welcome when we arrived, the waiting staff looked either uninterested or overwhelmed. There was only a couple of empty tables and they still had dirty dishes etc on them. I asked where we should sit and they just shrugged! After sitting down at the least dirty table – it was wiped slowly with a nasty looking cloth. We then realised that we were right in front of the coffee machine which was very noisy and so we coulod hardly hear ourseves talk. The scones were very nice – light and crumbly but the jam and clotted cream came in tiny little portions and that was for 3 scones – it was less than one would normally get for one scone elsewhere! The jam was quite ‘ordinary’ and the cream too small too taste! Not good value and so disappointing. Such a shame because it all looked so promising 🙁
