It was our Anniversary on the 1st June and we decided at short notice to visit Scarborough. We stayed at The Almar which is in a popular road for hotels and B&B's. Each year we visit Scarborough and always spend one or two days in various hotels. We have done the big brand names that begin Trav…. or Prem…. but we also like to try the smaller, cosy, hotels as well as larger hotels in the resorts that we visit. On this visit, we decided to just make a long weekend by stating Friday night and coming home saturday night, We wanted to keep cost down, so £58 for a double room with breakfast seemed reasonable to us. We were very pleasantly surprised to find that this hotel was run by a very efficient and friendly family and their manager. The welcome at the door as we pulled up outside, the cleanliness of the outside, entrance, hallways perfect. Not cluttered with all sorts of ornaments. When we were shown our room we were again surprised how large the room was. We have stayed at some places and the bed was the only thing that fit in the room. You had to walk sideways to move around the bed, but not in this room. We had more than enough space, along with the now compulsory en-suite, tea/coffee and TV.
As we were shown our room the manager enquired the nature of our stay and we did say it was just a quick get-away for wedding anniversary.
The next morning at breakfast, on our table was a very nice wedding anniversary card. That is what we call a personal touch by the owners and it was so genuine. On top of that it was a great english breakfast. It was not greasy or coooked and kept warm. It was just perfect.
We wish we had booked for longer, but the place was fully booked for the rest of the weekend.
Some of the bedrooms have just been refurbished and the remaining rooms are planned for later this year. We are planning to go back for a few days between Christmas and New Year, as they give more than good value, it is excellent value with a personal touch.
