Last month my sister and I, avid skating fans, went to see the “Thank You Canada Tour”:http://www.thethankyoucanadatour.ca/. It was amazing to see Canada’s Olympic skaters perform their Olympic routines, live, and, for Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, before their hometown crowd! Along with the consummate professional Elvis Stojko, the cast included Patrick Chan, Meagan Duhamel & Eric Radford, Kaetlyn Osmond, and Kaitlyn Weaver & Andrew Poje. The tour has traveled across the country to give fans a chance to see them in person and ended in Newfoundland on November 24th.
We had fabulous seats that were free thanks to a mix up earlier in the year at the arena with a Rod Stewart concert. There were many video interviews interspersed between the skating routines to introduce the skaters and allow for costume changes. We were also treated to a hip hop routine performed by Virtue and Moir on what looked like a boxing ring (minus the ropes) lowered onto the ice – a demonstration of how they practice routines before taking them onto the ice. Eric Radford is also a pianist and composer – he composed Patrick Chan’s Olympic music. For one of the segments, Eric played a new composition and Patrick skated.
Unlike many events, the audience was encouraged to take photos and videos and share them on all manner of social media. It had been a number of years since I had seen skating live and was very glad to have gone!
They’ll be back at “Budweiser Gardens”:https://www.budweisergardens.com/ in May 2019 with a different skating show, Stars on Ice.
