Temple Newsam in east Leeds is in easy reach of Leeds city centre. The estate was purchased by the council almost a century ago. The Elizabethan / Jacobean house – the birthplace of Lord Darnley husband of Mary Queen of Scots – now houses impressive collections of paintings and furniture. Take a tour and learn more about the previous occupants of the house – and a few ghost stories!
There is also a working farm on site. Charges apply for both house and farm but it is free to enter and enjoy the beautiful and extensive grounds. There is a lovely rhododendron walk, rose gardens and ornamental lakes. There’s also gift and produce shops, catering facilities and a children’s play area.
