We travelled to Kilimanjaro airport where we were met and transferred to the cofffee lodge for an overnight stay (needed to recover from our 9 hour flight). The lodge was superb. We were introduced to our driver/ stroke safari guide the next morning. He was most professional, friendly and informative. He tailored our safari experience to our main interests and when we wanted to do half day safaris instead of a full day he was only too happy to oblige. We learnt so much about Tanzanian culture as well as the many animals including large elephant herds, prides of lions, cheetahs, leopards and many more. Our camps were 4-5 star luxury tents with all amenities that you could wish for.
The first camp was Tarangire treetops. Tents were in magnificent baobab trees, like a luxury tree house. A beautiful camp with small swimming pool overlooking a water hole where wildlife frequented. The road into the camp was very rough so not for the feint hearted but worth the journey.
We visited the Ngorongoro crater, a must for the beautiful scenery and Wildlife. Our second camp was Lake Masek…vast barren plains on the way to the camp had us a little concerned but when we reached the lake and camp our fears were allayed. A beautiful relaxing camp with views over the lake where hippos frequented. The swimming pool overlooked the lake and was a refreshing change from the dusty safari trips.
Food in both camps was superb with plenty of choice.
We booked with Freedom Africa who were extremely helpful and professional.
A truly magnificent holiday which I would highly recommend to adventurous travellers who like wildlife and luxury combined.
