I had to pinch myself when I entered through the huge wooden portals of Tamodi Lodge. A vast decking overlooks the magnificent indigenous forest and valley stretching far out to the Outeniqua mountains. High above my head heavy timbers support the massive thatch of the roof. One tends to drop the suitcases, forget the bedrooms and stand and stare open-mouthed. But the best is yet to come. Welcomed by Owen, our host we are shown to our beautiful bedroom with its own decking area, the same breath-taking view, free standing bath and glass fronted shower that can be reached from the bedroom or the private deck. Each room is entered through ones own lounge area, Owen tells us that during the winter months the house is heated by three massive indoor fireplaces. My husbands eyes lit up when Owen invites us to select our wine from his extensive wine cellar situated under the main deck area. We were woken each morning by the call of the hadedah and a feast of fruit and plentiful choice made eating breakfast in the open lounge each morning a delight to look forward to. We saunter through the grounds to visit the equestrian centre where Lynne, Owen's wife trains her beautiful horses. No need to travel far for a good meal in the evening for at the bottom of a sandy drive we find Enrico's Italian restaurant overlooking the stunning Keurbooms beach lapped by the Indian Ocean. There are only three rooms at Tamodi Lodge and I dont know why I am not keeping it a huge secret. Can't wait for my next visit.
