Reasons for trip

Featured on BBC Gardeners World this delightful garden can be found at Morlands Farm, Wheatsheaf Road, near Henfield, West Sussex.

This 6 acre naturalistic style garden was created and designed in 2008 by Paul and Pauline McBride to give pleasure and enjoyment to everyone who visits.

Enveloped by mature oak trees, there are over 30,000 plants of over 800 varieties which provides a haven for butterflies, bees, birds, toads, voles and insects.

The beds are styled on a broken spiral formation which has a wide path down the middle. The borders are designed like huge block plantings with a path running through, narrowing as the plants ingress and swallowing you up in their cloak of romanticism.

Sympathetic to a natural landscape setting, flowers are soft and muted in places and radiantly eye catching in others.

Although it was a hot day, we arrived early and were able to enjoy this wonderland almost by ourselves for a while. Peace, quiet, wonderful smells from the flowers, buzzing bees and insects and fluttering butterflies flitting one from one plant to another. Everywhere you went there was something of interest to see.

Design and artwork add to the attraction which include some large, striding buffalo. There are 3 ponds, an area with bee hives, shetland sheep in one corner and a couple of pigs you must keep a look out for either on your walk into the garden, or, outward journey.. If you want to buy a plant there are many varieties for sale close to the Tea Room. In the Tea Room can choose from a tempting array of homemade cakes, or delicious ice cream.

Wildlife and natural places are increasingly being lost, but here is a place where it can thrive and give great pleasure to all those who visit.
