Relaxation

We spent a wonderful week here with just a few reservations.

We had been promised free transfers from the airport to the resort. When we arrived it was late evening and the airport at Cancun was heaving with fellow travellers. We looked for someone carrying a sign with our resort on it but could not find this. We asked and asked but no-one knew where to go. Just as we were about to give up and pay for a taxi we were directed over to where a couple of red polo shirted guys were standing. They had no sign with them and were making no effort to find us or as it turns out others who were also at the same resort. We had by this time spent over half an hour looking for our transfer.

The resort was fantastic. We had a first floor apartment with 2 huge bedrooms each with huge televisions and separate shower rooms. The second bedroom was up a flight of stairs inside the apartment which could be a problem for the disabled. It had a large Jacuzzi in the corner of the bedroom which we did not use as we preferred to spend our time outside. The beds were enormous and very comfortable and there was also a sofa and lounge chairs in each bedroom.

The kitchen was fairly well equipped. A dishwasher would have been useful as I hate washing up on holiday and a washing machine and tumble dryer would have been nice if we had stayed for more than a week( the luggage allowance of 23kg on the Virgin flight is only enough for a weeks supply of clothes for me!) There was no oven but a microwave and hob. The resort obviously expected you to eat out!

The living room/dining room off the kitchen was very comfortable with another huge tv to watch. A balcony would have been lovely if the apartment had not been at the back of the building and close to a busy main road.

There was a lift to our apartment which would be useful to anyone disabled.
Our apartment was nicely decorated. On the final day we had the use of a ground floor apartment to shower in before flying home. It was absolutely awful. The shower was over the bath, had no curtain and water went all over the floor. The sofa was ancient and the whole apartment looked dingy.

The restaurant at the resort was clean and the breakfast that we ate there twice was good value and tasty with plenty of choice.

We ate out a lot at local restaurants in Cancun town center – very reasonable and only a bus ride (10 pesos each way approx 50 pence).

The bus stop was only a short distance from the resort but involved crossing the very busy road we could see from our apartment- O.K for the able bodied and nimble of foot but not to be recommended for the very elderly or disabled. The convenience store was also over the road.

The swimming pool on site was well maintained – not particularly big but thankfully in February (when we travelled there) not busy.

The resort was by the side of the lagoon. You cannot swim in the lagoon as there are crocodiles in it. You can take a free water bus/free road resort minibuses though to other resorts affiliated to the Sunset Marina where you can find the beach and bigger swimming pools.

The reception staff in the resort were really helpful.

If you want to send postcard back to the U.K mine took 2 months to arrive- I had given them to the reception staff and have no idea why there was this delay.

In all I would go back there. It was quiet despite the busy road at the back and other guests were mostly early retirees from the U.S and very pleasant.

Note of warning – if you decide to do a timeshare presentation at the resort be prepared for a very hard sell with the guy in charge of the presentation being rather rude and nasty if you decide not to buy. We did get a free sightseeing day trip to places of interest for our trouble though which was very good. Tip- I managed to say no to buying a timeshare by using the excuse that there was no dishwasher, washing machine or tumble dryer in the apartments. He had no reply to that.
