My wife and I were on a short tour around Windemere, visiting the Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead and her home at Hill Top. We stopped for a late lunch in Hawkshead at this pub, and were nearly disappointed!
It seems they only serve lunches until 2.30pm, which of course we didn’t know and as is fairly normal these days, were expecting food to available all day. We arrived at around 2.15pm to be told the kitchen was closing! We had to make a quick choice and didn’t have enough time to have a good look at what the menu had to offer. The standard of food was OK – my wife just had a jacket potato and I had burger and chips – but as you might guess, it was unmemorable.
This is a pity, as the Sun Inn is in a prime position next to the main car park in Hawkshead, and surely could do a much better trade of food was available all day. I did have a nice pint of local ale but the whole experience was a bit rushed.
