My aunt and I were recently in Toronto overnight for an evening event at a venue in Kensington Market. We booked this hotel (through www.booking.com which did not require prepayment) because of its location – about a block south of Kensington Market. It is also conveniently located for China Town and the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario). We had time the first afternoon to walk the six blocks or so west to the AGO.

The hotel is on a one way street and we easily found it following the directions – note the parking lot for the hotel is on the left just before the hotel which is on a corner. We had to go round the block again to get into the parking lot as we overshot it the first time.

The neighbourhood is residential with a school on the next corner and housing that has seen better days. Twenty years ago I would not have stayed in this neighbourhood but we felt safe, even walking in the evening back to the hotel. There is always someone on the desk and the parking lot is monitored with cameras so our vehicle was safe too. I checked our room window and it was locked.

On the down side there were dead flies in the bathroom light fixture; unfinished trim on the floor although when we checked out the next morning it looked like work was being done on other rooms to finish off the trim; and there was no extractor fan in the bathroom.

However, the room was very clean and the area was quiet for sleeping. Although we didn’t use the kitchenette, we did check it all out and everything was clean, even the microwave. There was a good supply of utensils, pots and pans and dishes, especially for an extended stay. There was even an iron and ironing board in the cupboard. I have added my own photos as the website photos are often not quite as reflective of the rooms. I don’t know if it would be a good location in summer as I’m not sure how well the air conditioning would work. For $151 for the night, including parking, it was a good deal in Toronto for a room with two twin beds and a kitchenette.

There is no restaurant in the hotel, just a couple of vending machines in the lobby. However, you can cater for yourself in your kitchenette or eat out as we did. There are many restaurants in Kensington Market. We had breakfast at Our Spot (see other review).
