Most people always remember a holiday for the weather, location etc. When we had a cabin in the Highlands it was a truly unforgettable experience!!! While driving to the site it was the worst rain I have ever seen, we got stuck in a traffic jam because a tree had fallen onto the road, all I was worried about was the large tree looming over our car, it was as if it was saying "you're next"! We finally got to our cabin, after going through inches of mud and the like, it was still raining. We took our luggage and settled in. I spent the evening looking through the window at the howling wind and torrential rain! Bending the trees 'til they could bend no more, convinced once again we were going to be "splattered " by falling trees! I never slept a wink! Next morning we said "okay we will go out somewhere" only to find we were stuck there because it had rained so much we couldn't get through!! But, help was at hand. We stayed in and in the evening I fished out my bottle of voddie, never the one to be beaten, I did chocolate strawberries, told my husband and sister to get their shorts on we were going in the hot tub! (it was outside) so armed with voddie, mixer and said chocolate strawberries, we trooped out and got in the amazing hot tub, it was pouring down with rain! Did we care, not a jot we put the controls of the tub on to "big bubbles" and we sat in there and had a good drink, good laugh, and plenty of strawberries. The whole holiday was a disaster as far as the weather was concerned, but we went out, visited Historic Scotlands Castles etc, went to Glencoe, very dramatic and truly beautiful, drank numerous hot chocolates by day, plenty of voddie by night …and told ghost stories when the wind was howling. We stood on benches in the park nearby because it was so flooded you could not walk, we threw bread to the ducks who were very grateful. The Cabin we stayed in was their " Golden Oak" it had everything you could want, even a log fire if you so wished, was very well equipped. And the information centre was very friendly and helpful. We had a good week despite it being very wet, and very windy, so much so I nearly took off one day walking to the care! But I can recommned this Park very highly, just try to pick a good weather week! The scenery is stunning, Scotland at its best.
