I simply had to rack up the delicious meal my friend and I had at Strada, Camden, this evening. The place was quiet – perhaps what you’d expect for a Tuesday evening in February. The waitress was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We discovered that they have a separate vegetarian menu, which meant that I didn’t have to struggle through all those descriptions of meat layered with meat and garnished with meat (never much of a joy for a vegetarian). I mentioned, in passing, that my favourite dish had been taken off their menu a while back: risotto verdura. Our waitress immediately said that, as the restaurant was quiet, the chef would be happy to make me just that ~ no asparagus, but several other green vegetables instead. It was utterly delicious ~ I was naturally delighted.
Meanwhile, my friend could not find the dish she was hoping for. It turns out that it’s there under a slightly different description: chicken breast with rosemary potatoes has become, “pan roasted corn-fed chicken with a rich creamy mushroom sauce, rocket and crisp herby potatoes”. Every bit as delicious, apparently.
We washed all this down with a very reasonably priced bottle of Cerasuo Lo Ros Ato, Farnese, Abruzzo (pink wine) and followed up with affogato and pannacotta. All delicious.
I’d say that at £53 for the two of us, it was marginally more than we sometimes pay, but worth every penny.
