The Mailbox in Birmingham is a short walk from Grand Central rail station with lots of eating places. Strada is on 3rd floor, a spacious light area with further upstairs seating. Staff are very friendly and happy to offer a jug of tap water (ie free) to go with your drink. The set menu is good value at £9.95 for 2 courses, £11.95 for 3 with a really good choice. I had grilled avocado with pine nuts and mozzarella, very yummy and a perfect starter you could do yourself for guests – easy but looks impressive.
The main course was salmon with lentils – hmm, the lentils kept it a bit oily for my taste but obviously that is just personal as I would have been happy with salmon on lettuce! I did, of course, go for a 3rd course and wasn’t disappointed by the rich creamy dessert. As this was Christmas period, they had mulled wine at £4.75 and a fabulous Prosecco Fiabesco Aperol Spritz at £5.95 – just like in Italy! As with the Strada restaurant in Cardiff, it is good quality food served well in very pleasant surroundings, and early evening seemed to be a favourite with the 50+ age group.
