Stourbridge in the West Midlands is world renowned for its glass industry.
The Webb Corbett Visitor Centre tells the story of glass making and Royal Doulton in this area. The Glasshouse Art Centre and the Ruskin Glass Centre are housed in a former glass factory on Wollaston Road. There is an array of craft workshops where local craftspeople still work and tutors teach the students of Glasshouse College. The centre is the cultural hub for theatre performances and conferencing etc. There are 18 businesses on the site predominately to do with glass and other handmade crafts. It is fascinating to watch the glassblowing and other creations. We visited the cafe for tea and homemade cakes.
On High Street,Wordsley in Stourbridge, there is also the Red House Glass Cone heritage site with a museum, similar demonstrations and interesting gift shops. The visitor centres are mostly wheelchair friendly. You can also take a canal trip between the sites.
