Reasons for trip

Not far from Dunsford village, cross the bridge over the River Teign and there's a free car park just up the hill (Dartmoor National Park information van there in the summer). Walk back to the bridge and turn left onto the riverside path. Very early in the morning it's possible to see otters here. Also there are mink which climb trees as well as catching fish deftly! The nature reserve is famed for it's swathes of wild daffodils which can be seen a bit further along where the path opens out into a meadow. On a warm day there are thousands of butterflies, with a few rareties (e.g. high brown frittilary). Kingfishers, Dippers, rare beetles and orchids too, so identification books are worthwhile. It's possible to take a variety of paths and a superb round walk can be taken by walking to the end of the reserve along the riverside, branching left onto the lane and walking to Clifford Bridge then up the hill, then taking the path to the left and following the other river bank back. The reserve walk would be possible for those who find walking a little difficult but they'd need to keep on the path a bit further away from the river as the other path requires stepping over roots etc.
