This hotel had good rooms, all with mini-kitchen facility including fridge, hot rings and microwave. The breakfast was included in the price – as were the Tuesday-Thursday evening receptions (wine, beer and food buffet). A bit of a scramble to get seated when busy – but using the overflow bar area took care of that. And it was busy during our visit, as the hotel was accommodating a number of families who’d lost their home as a result of Hurricane Sandy earlier that month. The location beside the Port Authority Bus Terminal puts the hotel in easy walking distance from the main Manhattan sites, including Central Park, Times Square, Chrysler, Top of the Rock, and Empire State Building amongst others. And also Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, which we were there for. Reception and other staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The only complaint we heard – from others as it didn’t affect us (being on the second floor ourselves and using the stairs)- was that there was often a long wait for the two elevators which, serving fifteen floors, seemed to have trouble coping with demand. But it did give you an opportunity to say ‘Hi’ to a lot of people using the stairs! A bit pricy for our normal standard, but difficult to avoid that in central New York if you want a hotel of this standard. Wouldn’t hesitate to use Staybridge Suites again.
