Reasons for trip

St Peter’s Church is right in the centre of Chester at the Cross where the four main streets of Eastgate, Northgate, Watergate and Bridge Street meet.

From the outside it is a rather characterless brick box with a small square tower. If it wasn’t for its size it is easy to miss. It does however have a very good cafe and where else in Chester could you get a cup of coffee and slice of homemade cake for £3? (It has gone up since my “last visit”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/restaurant/175464-review-st-peter-s-church-cafe in 2017.) The cafe is non profit making and run by volunteers. Not only that, the cakes are also made by a charity supporting disabled people get back into employments. It’s win win all the way.

There was a good selection and both the coffee and walnut cake and the lemon cake were excellent. Portion sizes are generous too.

Don’t miss the picture in the toilet – Their toilet is “twinned”:https://www.toilettwinning.org/ with a latrine in Afghanistan and they are now collecting to sponsor another toilet.

This really is the hidden gem in Chester. Ignore the trendy and expensive eateries in the centre of Chester and head here for the cakes.
