St Marys is a small town in south western Ontario on the #7 Highway between London and Stratford. Earlier this year my sister and I spent the day in “St Marys”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/attraction/196799-review-meet-me-in-st-marys and I recently returned to golf. This summer I have been trying out different golf courses in the area and this town has a “little gem”:https://stmarysgolf.com/. I first tried the course using a Groupon. The reviews of it were glowing so I decided to check it out myself. So far I’ve been twice in the past couple of weeks (both times using Groupon vouchers) and highly recommend it.
I booked online as required with the Groupon. The tee time I booked was listed as costing $38.99/player for 18 holes with a cart (I paid $27.50 for the Groupon). You could also get a free bucket of warm-up range balls if you wanted to hit the driving range before your round. When I arrived all the staff were very friendly and the ranger soon had me set up with a cart.
For any Stephen King and Joe Hill fans, there is a movie artefact on the cart path between holes two and three: the church spire from The Church of the Black Rock of the Redeemer from the movie In the Tall Grass. I wasn’t expecting it so it was a bit of a surprise the first time I saw it! Apart from this little nugget of movie fame, the course itself is on the outskirts of town and is in great condition with lovely rolling greens. There are a couple of hills to hit up but that also means you get to hit downhill as well. There are some challenging spots with water and sand and the greens can be a bit tricky at times. On the whole, the course is a joy to play. The puffy white clouds hovering overhead were quite picturesque against the blue sky during both of my visits. There was no one behind me so I took the time to snap some photos.
