Reasons for trip

Tried a day trip by rail to St Ives using a senior railcard. It worked brilliantly. The train was clean, comfortable and on time. Had to change trains at St Erth for the last few minutes of the journey on a branch line along the coast. 4 hours in St Ives was plenty of time for a meal, look around, coffee in the Tate coffee shop, walk on the beaches and sit in the sunshine. Return journey was fine though the train was busier as it picked up commuters going home. Definitely a day to repeat.
