Reasons for trip

We made a quick stop in St. Ives after spending the day on the opposite coast at St. Michael’s Mount as it is less than 10 miles away and it’s such a lovely spot. I remember eating Cornish ice cream 99s with friends over 30 years ago as we gazed out at the lovely blue water. On this occasion, we parked in the Trenwith Long Stay car park at the top of the hill (£3) and walked down through the shops towards the harbour. On our way we stopped in at Pengenna Pasties on High Street for Cornish Pasties. My hands were full at the time so I snapped a photo on the way back to the vehicle after they were closed. My aunts and uncle chose the original filling but I opted for the minty lamb (£4 each). They were still warm and all very good. We ate them as we continued on our walk to and along the harbour, careful to keep our dinners away from the marauding seagulls. It had been a lovely day and still was. We sat on a bench watching the boats in the harbour including a scull that headed past the breakwater. One of my aunts befriended a seagull. Not that she fed it; no, she was talking to it – Annie, the gull became called. The signs around the harbour are quite strict about feeding the gulls, and rightly so. We saw one harassing a woman trying to eat an ice cream cone on the beach earlier that afternoon in Marazion.

We were loath to leave the lovely harbour scene and prolonged our visit with coffees as we followed the sun and moved along the benches towards the car park and our drive back to our holiday let in Looe. There is a bus from town back up to the parking lot as it is a steep climb and involves stairs at the end – the bus passed us while we were walking up to the lot.
