I decided to have a special celebration having reached 80 and still being fit so a dinner party for the family (25 of us) at the Royal Naval & Yacht Club in Old Portsmouth, This was to be a posh frocks and smart chaps event with a saxophonist playing for us. Turned out really well.
Next I wanted a party for friends as we have so many (40 came) which was held in a local pub with curry and my 11 year old granddaughter made me a tennis court cake! Some singing was involved as my partner and his friends love to sing.
My partner, Pete, had asked what other special thing I would like to do and I have really fancied spending the night on Spitbank Fort out in the Solent, so that was my next treat!
There are three Napoleonic Forts that we can see from the coast – Spitbank, No man’s and Horse Sand, the first two being luxury hotels. So we were taken out in a boat on a beautiful warm day, given a welcome drink and escorted around this amazing historic place which has not been over modernised then given lunch, so delicious, shown out amazing bedroom, had a dip in the hot tub – such fun out in the open – then ready for dinner which was magnificent. There were only three other couples on there with us and in the evening there was a fire pit to sit round with a glass of rum. So Lovely sleeping with the seea lapping outside but we are not moving !! After breakfast we were taken back on the sea to Portsmouth . Magic.
My Birthday treats weren’t over yet as my darling sons, Ray, Derek and John had bought a Gliding experience for me at Lasham. So another exciting day, a flight in a glider.
I will not forget this Birthday in a hurry – what a lucky lady I am!
