Reasons for trip

There is nowhere quite like Southwold. From the attractive pier with restaurant, shops and its individual fun amusements to the Harbour where you can buy fresh fish and, of course, fish and chips, this Georgian town has everything. The High Street has appealing shops and restaurants, and the Adnams owned The Crown and The Swan offer tasty food. And you can even visit the brewery. Along the front, dotted between the beach huts, there are three discreet take-aways that service the sunbathers and swimmers, Suzi’s being the nearest to the High Street. Sometimes there are special events on Gun Hill, such as art exhibitions or antique fairs. There are ramps to the level of the gaily painted beach huts, and you can even hire a hut for the day. Mobile phone access is good.

There are several car parks, even a free one, if you get there early enough! For the energetic you can walk across the fields or else via the harbour to the river bank where you can jump on the ferry for a very modest fee, to take you to Walberswick, a charming village on the opposite bank which has attracted families to holiday there generation after generations.
