Southlodge Hotel is quite local to us and whenever we feel the need to recharge our batteries or just treat ourselves, we book into Southlodge.
It is part of the Exclusive Hotel Group and, having stayed at some of the others in the group (which are all very good) we consider Southlodge to be the best.
It is a large, stunning old building, with new extensions that fit perfectly in with the old. All the rooms are different and have names instead of numbers. Some have their own patio, others have large balconies (one has a jacuzzi on the balcony).
Ask for a room that overlooks the garden and you will be rewarded with a spectacular view over the terraced garden, leading to a stunning view of the south downs.
The grounds are extensive and you can easily walk for an hour around the ponds and the rock garden. Venture right to the bottom of the garden and you can walk further along the marked footpaths.
There are two restaurants, one being the Pass where you actually sit in the kitchen, but don't worry, it's not all steamy and the staff don't swear!
The reception is a vast, but friendly area and the staff are very welcoming, and will guide you to your room and explain all the facilities to you.
There are several comfortable lounge areas to sit and have a quiet read or have afternoon tea, or you can have it outside on the lower garden terraces. There is also a covered outside terrace where you can have your breakfast on a nice morning, or lunch & evening meal.
You must not miss a visit to the wine cellar where Dominic, the very knowledgeable Somelier, will guide you through his choice of wines for the week.
They have many events through the year where they do a special room rate if you attend the event.
To sum up, Southlodge is WONDERFUL. It's where I'm going to go for a few weeks when I win the jackpot on the lottery, just to contemplate how to spend the rest of the money!
