Hello readers, it’s me again here to tell you about our lovely NYD brunch at Sopwell House St Albans.
This time we brought with us our nephew, who was very impressed by all he saw and ate. We were met by the Brasserie team with a warm friendly welcome, it was more like coming home to friends than going out for a meal. They even remembered our names!
We were fortunate enough to find the sweet Monika was looking after us as she is very good at her job, attentive yet discrete, the makings of a fine manager one day, even to clearing the table correctly and not stretching over people or the food. Daniel, the chef, brought us out his famous vegan tomato soup; the pies de resistance of every meal when it arrives it is yummy we recommend it to all vegan or not!
Well, there was a table in the centre of the room with salads, cold meats and fish and the middle of the table was decorated with a whole salmon covered in lemon slices very ornate.
A tureen of soup was kept piping hot with a basket of bread and rolls to accompany it.
There was a carvery table with a choice of three meats with as much as anyone could eat. On the hot buffet there were other dishes, hot vegetables and potato; gravy and Yorkshire puddings; and, maybe I should have mentioned this first the br of brunch – bacon, egg, sausage, baked beans!!!!!!!!!!!
A fine choice of desserts followed with one hot dessert bread and butter pudding which was kept hot.
After all this there was a plate of cheeses and fresh fruit platter.
Hot tea and coffee completed the meal but these were additional charge, this was a shame really for a couple of pounds, we personally would rather have an all inclusive price in the beginning. Also, cold drinks were not included except for water; a big reminder our Xmas adventure was over; in past years there has been a pre lunch drink (bloody Mary, prosecco etc) and half bottle of wine per head.
It was an enjoyable lunch and the staff on duty did all they could to make it a lovely meal. The musical duo was very good and added ambience which was needed as there were not many people around. We were told the event was not included in the NYE package as it used to be, and that it why it was not well attended.
