Health / Spa

To celebrate my birthday and the birthday of a friend (they were just a week apart), we decided to visit Sopwell House overnight and treat ourselves to a spa treatment. Our room was going to be ready from 3pm but we arrived early and decided to have a snack lunch in the bar. Unfortunately there only seemed to be one person serving in the bar so our lunch took some time to come. It was however very nice. When we checked in they had not separated the beds (we wanted a twin room not a double) which was a bit annoying but they promised to do it whilst we were down having our treatment. We both had a 50 minute facial booked. The spa staff are all lovely. They are all very young but the facial was very relaxing and refreshing. We then lazed around the swimming pool for the rest of the afternoon,. Although it was quite crowded there were plenty of loungers around the indoor pool and even some outside (although the weather wasn’t good enough to use these). Sopwell House is a lovely old building with new annexes added. They had a lot of wedding parties going on when we were there so I presume that is why some of the staff seemed a little harassed. The reception staff seemed to be getting a lot of complaints as every time we walked through there another person was complaining about something or other! Our package included a night in the hotel, the facial, dinner, breakfast and lunch before we left. The room was very comfortable and the food was good. The staff in the restaurant were extremely polite, a little too much in fact, I really didn’t want to be asked if “everything was perfect?” every quarter of an hour! (Yes, the food was lovely but I wouldn’t have described it as “perfect”, mainly because there were far too many peas in my pasta dish – those little green vegetables were everywhere!) You are supplied with a complimentary robe and slippers and the pool area is really nice with a Jacuzzi to relax in. However the total package bill was £400! (£200 each!) I think maybe it is slightly over-priced as I have been to better spas for the day for less money.

So if you want a relaxing break in, it is a nice place but I am not sure I would pay that amount of money again.
