Having paid nearly £14 entrance fee for myself and partner we expected an interesting couple of hours. What we got was a sad and empty castle. No wandering minstrals playing medieval instruments and songs. No actors playing out scenes of castle life from the distant past. No dressed up scullery maids and cooks in the kitchen. No table laid for dinner with pewter and candles in the huge dining room. No tethered war horses in the castle courtyard resplendent with Royal saddlery. No Ladies wearing fabulous period dresses. No slide shows about castle life. No guides in costume and speaking in old English recounting tales of customs, habits and lifestyle of the castle’s inhabitants. No activities for children like medieval clothes and mirrors to dress up and have fun or tables with crayons and paper for drawing castles and dragons. All this we have seen and enjoyed in other visits to castles and stately homes so why not here may I ask?
Instead there were just empty rooms each with a brief description of what the room was for but all lacking in any furniture whatsoever.
