I usually keep 5 stars in the hope of a luxury cruise or a visit to a multi Michelin Star restaurant but apart from eye watering prices on some of the fine wine, I could find nothing to fault. This is the second time we have been there, the first was on a ”Steak and Pie Night”, this was a full menu night. The menu was not confusingly large but with the specials was more than ample enough for all tastes. The wine list too had wines for all tastes, and pockets. We recommend the Madeline Yorkshire White and the Cabernet, yes, I did say YORKSHIRE; the Madeline Angevine is grown in Yorkshire and is in the style of Sauvignon Blanc, less astringent than NZ Marlborough and the equal of many a Sancerre it is simply delicious and has to be tried to be believed. The ambience is ”trendy” with rough wood and a whitewashed brick wall, the tables and chairs are roomy and comfortable and the temperature is perfect. The food I would call modern rather than trendy, that is to say, taste and quality, presented beautifully is the lead rather than fad or fashion. The boar cheeks were a taste sensation and the deserts were almost too pretty to eat! The service was impeccable and friendly, from the greeting to farewell we were treated like regular, high-spending favourites. Nothing was too much trouble, even sharing the cheeseboard between the two ladies in a combination not on the menu and still charging only for one. Superb value.
