Reasons for trip

We had wanted to take the guided tour of The Globe Theatre for a long time, so when a 2 for 2 Red Letter Day offer dropped through my Inbox, we took full advantage & headed for London. We made very good use of our Senior Railcards & the London Travel Cards we purchased and were able to zip around on the Tube or hop on a bus, but travel was at more of a snail's pace due to the traffic. Walking across The Millenium Bridge gave us magnificent views of the impressive new architecture along The Thames. Tours of The Globe are every 30 minutes, so we did not have to wait long. Our guide was excellent and her commentary brought the history of The Globe to life. Despite it not being the original theatre, the interior was stunning. With its ornate stage area, circle of wooden seating areas and thatched open roof, it took my breath away. With our guide's lively & humorous descriptions we could almost hear the beer-swilling 700-strong standing members of the audience! And we could almost (fortunately) smell the urine-soaked straw that they were standing on… It was a visit to remember – Shakespeare will not be turning in his grave!
