My friend and I recently visited Serralves modern art museum, garden and 1930s house close to Porto. The modern art itself did little for us, although I am sure that modern art afficianados would enjoy it. We did however enjoy the photographic museum which contained some beautiful sea and skyscapes.
However, the piece de resistance for us were the beautiful sculptured gardens and art deco house. The house took us right back to the 1930s and although there was no furniture, we were intrigued by the amazing marble bathrooms with their fantastic views looking over the gardens. The two bathrooms were large with separate doors leading to a toilet and bidet. There was an amazing galleried landing and enormous bedrooms – in my imagination I was 80 years back in time. There were no other visitors apart from a class of schoolchildren in the large drawing room who were having a drawing lesson.
If I were to go back there (I hope I do) I would spend longer in the house and garden and less time in the actual museum.
