Reasons for trip

My daughter and I have visited the spa at Carey's Manor on 3 occasions. Each time it has been lovely, but the first time was the best as it was a new experience and the spa is so very nice. We are only able to go on the two for one offers that they do from time to time, but even so it is still expensive. However you start with a questionnaire and green tea served by Thai ladies. You are given a robe and slippers and you go upstairs to change. There are lockers which need £1 to operate. There are masses of towels, but you are given one when you enter. There is a wonderful pool of warm water with many separate water jets, just the job for massaging those achey bits! Then there is a couple of aromatherapy showers, one is minty. There is also a room which is not for the faint hearted. It has a huge shower in it and then a wooden bucket of cold water to tip over yourself. Only my daughter was brave enough for that one. There is a steam room and upstairs there are two warm rooms, one warmer than the other. One of them has wonderful couches of mosaic which are heated underbeath and just great for relaxing. As part of our treatment we had a mud treatment. For this you go into a small room for two people. You undress and put on paper pants, you then rub the mud all over you, including your hair. When you finally get the giggles under control, you go into the inner room where steam billows out around you and eventually you cannot even see the person you went in with. After 30 minutes (you are getting bored anyway) the overhead shower comes on to wash off the mud and you can use a hose supplied to get into the bits the shower does not cover. Then you go out and dry yourself and get back into your swimsuit. There is a good sized swimming pool in the main spa area. I have to say that I have never felt any particular benefit from this, but it is a nice experience, but not one I would ever pay extra for. Part of the day ticket includes lunch in the most gorgeous Thai restaurant, the food is totally delicious and light. You can have alcohol with it, but it is not advisable as you can feel rather strange afterwards in the hot rooms. After lunch you can retire to a quiet room upstairs, which is quite darkened and there you can relax for a while. Our only problem was that we got another dose of the giggles in there and had to go out for fear of disrupting the other guests. I think it was one of those days. We have been fine on subsequent visits. It really is a fabulous day out. It seems to be popular with hen groups which tends to spoil it a bit, but hopefully you will miss them. Well worth it, if you can get it on offer.
