We had travelled up from Lincolnshire to Kent by coach on the morning of 26th July in glorious sunshine. The sun continued to shine throughout our time at Scotney adding to the beauty of the surroundings. On our arrival we were warmly welcomed to Scotney and advised to walk down to the old castle early in our visit as there was a wedding on later in the day. What a romantic place for a wedding the castle soon proved to be. The view of the castle as you walk down the drive through the attractive landscaped gardens is breathtaking. The castle was reflected in the moat and flowers filled the surrounding gardens. We lingered to take photos then entered the old castle wandering through the 14th century rooms and imagining life as it would have been. It was fascinating to be in such an old and atmospheric building. We strolled back up to the Victorian Mansion, taking time to explore the different aspects of the estate, the quarry garden, flower beds and bastion walk, which gave beautiful vistas over the grounds back to the castle. The contrast inside the mansion was just as interesting with its reflections of Victorian life. We had had a wonderful time and one day would like to return.
