Hotel Tunturi is one of a number of hotels in Saariselka, along with Gilas, Holiday club, Reikolina etc they form what is best described as a holiday village and share certain aspects such as Gala dinners etc. We stopped in the Tunturi (Naatalia) which is around 100 yrds from reception, we had free wifi on site. The rooms were large and warm with a sauna, kitchenette, fridge, Shower (piping hot water) balcony overlooking the mountains and ski track, the furniture was fine, if somewhat tired. The shower was an oddity as it comes out of the wall onto the floor, there is no screening however this didnt cause problems. Dining is taken in the Tunturi and composes of soups, salads including cold fish dishes and a hot meat and Fish dish with boiled potatoes and veg, several desserts and a children's menu. The food was great. Drinks were cheap in comparison to other places we have been, Eu 6.90 for 1/2L beer or Eu 3 for a glass of sparking wine. Coffee is provided. Likewise breakfast was a similar continental buffet style meal, lots of fish, cheese, meat, bread cereals, porridge, yoghurt and a cooked one if wanted. Toboggans are left around the hotel complex (all of them) for use by everyone on site and everyone is kitted out in suits on arrival, this includes, one piece suit, mits, socks and boots, no hats. There is a toboggan slope by the roundabout near the church behind Gilas. Watch out for adults who haven't got a clue how to steer, flying down into children. Close by is the Skiing area, cross country and downhill, we didnt have time to try these out but, should you hire skis, 90 minutes instruction is provided if needed. There is a regular bus service to Ivalo airport from reception if needed. Given the time of year it isn't suited for the less mobile due to snow and ice.
