Reasons for trip

“Do you want to come to tea and have Fish and Chips Grandma?” asked Number One Grandson. He must have been reading my mind as I’d been thinking about fish and chips earlier in the day, but the chippie is too far for me to walk.

It is a popular takeaway in a small row of shops in one of the housing estates in Scunthorpe, with some parking outside. There is always a queue, indicating it is good. As well as the usual selection of fish, chips, battered sausage and burgers it also sells pizzas and chicken. The menu is confusing on a first visit with a range of permutations with different prices. A small cod and chips on a tray cost me £2.50 and was ample. It is possible to buy different size portions of both fish and chips, either on or off a tray. The boys chose their favourite of battered sausage.

We came out with a polybag of well wrapped offerings which stayed warm for the drive home in the car. The fish was flaky and tasty and surrounded by a crisp batter which wasn’t greasy. The chips were chip shop chips at their best. All they needed was a sprinkling of vinegar and a shake of salt.

We all cleared our plates and I’m now waiting for another invitation…
