Reasons for trip

Just had a fantastic all inclusive holiday with my wife, daughter and grandchildren twins.

Hotel was Sol Dunas on Sal Island. Cape Verde. Flight with Thomson. This was probably the worst part of the holiday, both ways. Forget the flights.

The Sol Dunas Hotel is a fabulous hotel with amazing staff. As soon we got off the transfer coach, the front desk manager came over and assisted us. We had twins and my daughter had her hand in plaster. They could not do enough. They checked us in very quickly. The manager changed our two family rooms to a two bedroom apartment in a most ideal position, right next to the pools and all the facilities for the children.

The apartment was great and on the ground floor. Perfect. All the staff, porters, reception, restaurant, maids and resort staff such as bars, children centres were so kind and helpful. Always with a smile and always greeted us regardless of time of day or night.

The food in the Spice restaurant was amazing and plentiful, always. There were all different tastes catered and lots of variety. The restaurant was spotless, considering how many people they catered for, 1000s per sitting. They even had a great area for the children. By this I mean food for children. And it was a pleasure to children going up to the counters and able to help themselves to food they wanted to eat. With assistance from the staff, if required at all times.

The facilities were brilliant. There were so many pools on the resort I really do not know how many. They catered for all types. There was of course a children’s pool with all sorts of exiting slides and fountains etc. This was suitable for the very young, our twins were only under 10 months, to teenagers. There were daily events laid on for children at the pool side which were very well organised and participated. There were lots of activities organised for the adults, from aqua aerobics to impromptu dancing. They even had a themed event every night in the theatre, like Chicago to Lion King plays.

The creche was great with ample staff and also allowed the parents or grandparents, in or case to play with our children in the creche. Lots of facilities for all age groups.
All the bars we used were very well catered for and the service was great with almost all the drink that you could think of provided for.

The beech is great on the resort and also at the local town, just 20 minutes away.

All in all, for our first all inclusive holiday, we would strongly recommend this resort and Cape Verde. It has to be pointed out that the people of Cape Verde are just brilliant. So polite and helpful with their beautiful smiles.

The only thing we were not happy with were the Thomson staff. From the airport, the hotel or back at the airport, they were next to useless and did not see any reason why they were there. All they did was gathered around one corner of the reception area not being very helpful. The local hotel staff at the resort were just brilliant and they could have taught the Thomson staff a thing or two about taking care of their clients.

The aircrew on the flight were abominable. My daughter got on the aircraft with an arm in plaster and a baby in a sling, with a hand luggage and tried to get into her seat. The steward, with scruffy hair and scruffy clothes was very happy to turn his back to her and carry on chatting to a couple. When asked for assistance he seemed very put out. If he worked for me I would have fired him on the spot. A very advert for Thomson or any aircrew.

Anyway, back to a great holiday. Cape Verde is a relatively short flight from U.K and very worthwhile holiday destination. Great weather in December, average of 24 degrees C. Great people and fantastic resort, Sol Dunas. Can not wait to go back again. All ages are catered for. From babies to pensioners. There are family areas as well as adults only so no problems anyone getting in anyone’s way.

Love the resort.
