I always had a dislike of Ryanair but it was irrational as I’d hardly ever used them. However, for a recent flight from Stansted to Athens, they were pretty good. Check in was reasonable, the flight left on time, I didn’t want anything to eat or drink, and we arrived early. Ok the leg room is not great, but it’s probably no different to other low cost airlines.
My only criticism is that at the gate, they tell you they’re ready to board but what they actually mean is that the incoming flight has landed and they just want to move you into another area whilst the incoming passengers disembark. Not good if you have difficulty in standing.
However my top tip is for Stansted. We arrived early in the morning on a Friday in the school holidays (a time we were not normally chose to travel) to find it mobbed. However, the lady at check in suggested buying a priority pass to get us through security much quicker. For £7 each it was well worth it as we sailed past the long queues and straight to an empty security area. In fact I was so amazed how quiet it was, I forgot to take my laptop out of my bag which meant it had to be re-screened. Probably the best £7 I spent on the trip and it meant I had time to have a second glass of fizz at the Halo Fizz Bar!
