Reasons for trip

We frequently visit Epping to see a friend and having had lunch several times at “Piya Bar and Kitchen”:https://www.silvertraveladvisor.com/review/restaurant/209772-review-piya-bar-and-kitchen, we decided to try a different Turkish restaurant, “Roza”:https://www.rozarestaurant.co.uk/.

The restaurant offers a superb value “lunch”:https://www.rozarestaurant.co.uk/_files/ugd/257a11_9f4cf5904ed549208924a556d594718b.pdf with two courses at £11.50 on Monday to Friday from 12pm to 3.30pm.

There were four starters: hummus, cacik (yoghurt with cucumber, mint and garlic), beetroot with garlic and finally, soup. The first three might have been a little boring on their own, but as there were three of us, we shared each one which gave us a lovely, but not too filling, starter. There was plenty of warm pitta to go with it.

There was a wider choice of mains with grills, seafood, pasta, burgers and vegetarian options. I chose the chicken shish, whilst others chose the adana kebab with minced lamb and green peppers and the fillet of sea bass which was served with baby potatoes and spinach (on the a la carte “menu”:https://www.rozarestaurant.co.uk/_files/ugd/257a11_311f83be324a4a3585b14f4669611c91.pdf this is £19.95 so is particularly good value for money). My shish had chunks of tender chicken and was served, as requested with rice, but it would have been nice to have a little side salad with it although we enjoyed the spicy salsa and garlic dip. The kebabs had been ordered with fries but came with rice and when the waiter realised, he provided the fries as well, which we all dived into.

There was a good “wine list”:https://www.rozarestaurant.co.uk/_files/ugd/257a11_69ba12814705460c966fee59661a0ed3.pdf but interestingly the Turkish wine was more expensive than the Italian Pinot Grigio which we plumped for at £25.

The website says it is opulent and elegant and I’d definitely agree with that statement. Whilst it’s a large restaurant, it doesn’t feel like it with lots of nooks and crannies with velvet chairs and curtains. On the way out we spotted a small private dining room with wonderful murals on the wall and large chandelier which would be wonderful for a small group.
