This is a Victorian hotel with a lovely original architecture. It lets itself down by the swing entrance door glass panels being absolutely filthy. We had booked a double sea facing room. The room was not suitable for us as it had 4 steps down to the dressing table, wardrobe and bathroom.

We were then given room 213. It was large and we couldn’t be bothered changing again.

The carpet was frayed,I could not sit at the dressing table as a fridge was placed near it which meant that I couldn’t sit on the chair, the dust was thick on the skirting board by the curtains. The furniture was shabby. On the hostess tray there was only one spoon between two cups. The bathroom was a disgrace!!!! The toilet cistern leaked onto a tiled shelf which pooled into the corner and created black mould. One handle was missing from the bath. The mirror corners had congealed dirt in the corners. The glass shelf was not wiped. The toilet had limescale dirt. The toilet door lock did not work. We requested a rubber mat for the bath at 9.00am and at 9.30pm it still had not arrived so we had to ask again. There were two odd plastic glasses disguising themselves as toothmugs!

There were a few upsides. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was a sufficient buffet, a hot choice and cold ham and cheese as well as juices, fruit salads, cereals. We could hear the music in the dining room in our bedroom. One lift serves this large hotel which means a long wait. They had lost their drinks licence and were waiting for another one so the bar wasn’t open and if you wanted a drink you had to bring your own whether to have with a meal or drink in your room. Our bill was reduced because of our room/bathroom.
