I love this theatre! We went to see LENNON, which was amazing, and had a meal before the show sitting in the stalls. Once you’ve had your meal, the staff will clear your table and you simply sit back and enjoy the show. Marvellous!
LENNON review: LIVERPOOL (July: 2014)
It’s not often that I buy a theatre ticket at the last minute; I’ve usually bought and paid for my tickets weeks, if not months in advance. However finding myself in Liverpool and staying right opposite the Royal Court, I couldn’t help but notice that Lennon was playing all that week, and being a fan of The Beatles for fifty years, I decided to buy a ticket.
I was so pleased that I did, as Lennon turned out to be a fabulous show. Tracing the life of John Lennon from birth to untimely death, the first act revolved around meeting Paul McCartney and forming The Beatles, whilst act two focussed on Lennon and Yoko, love and peace, bed ins, bags ins and the lost years.
What made this show so special was the set performed by “The Beatles” in act one. Now I saw The Beatles live twice in 1963 and 1964, and these guys were as good if not better than the real thing! They were so good they really sent shivers down my spine, they were incredible. Seeing Tom Connor, who played McCartney, was almost like travelling back in time to the sixties, it was an incredible experience.
The second act was an anti-climax after the brilliance of act one, but when everyone in the talented cast sang “Imagine” at the end, I knew I had been privileged to spend a very special evening in a great theatre with an exceptional cast.
