Reasons for trip

We spent a lovely afternoon at these beautiful gardens which are around a mile from the city centre of Edinburgh

Car parking is available outside the gardens with some disabled car parking bays at the West Gate. (but we could not see an official car park). The gardens are also accessible by local bus or tour bus.

Entry to these gardens is free (although there are small charges to enter the Glass houses), in view of the fact there is 72 acres of fascinating plants and gardens to see, with the opportunity to see rare plants, this surely must represent excellent value for money.

The gardens have the largest collection of Chinese plants outside china and the tallest palm house in Britain. The Windows on the world Glasshouse explores different climate zones. However, my favourite was the Scottish Heath garden which is designed to look like the Scottish highlands. The Rock Garden which must have thousands of plants in it was also a favourite.

The walkways are wide and spacious, there is a restaurant, café which has an outdoor seating area. and coffee shop a superb shop and a plant centre

There are plenty of areas sit either in the shade or enjoying the sunshine.

We only spent a few hours here, to fully explore it would take much longer, but would certainly recommend it to others.

As for photography, we were told we were welcome to take photographs but not for commercial use, so I would be unsure as to whether they could be put on to this site, so my only photo is of the entrance!
