On the last leg of our journey across Spain to our home in Fuerteventura we arrived in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and headed for the Roca Negra Hotel and Spa at Agaete which we had been to before on a previous trip. The hotel is situated outside the town and there are sign posts to follow but I would advise arriving in the daylight as it is more difficult to find at night.
We used this hotel as it is a short drive from Las Palmas and is away from the hustle and bustle of the city.It is also a 45 minute drive to the port from where we took our Fred Olsen ferry to Fuerteventura.
The hotel is situated on a headland called Roca Negra which means black rock in Spanish and and all rooms have sea views as the hotel is built into the rock face.
The hotel has a pool and all rooms overlook this and have easy access. You can walk to the beach at Agaete by a specially constructed walkway but this needs to be done in the daylight as the first part of the beach is unlit..Along the beach there is a good selection of restaurants mainly serving fish dishes but it is interesting to wander along and review each menu to see if there is something suitable for your tastes.
Roca Negra Hotel does have a restaurant and bars but you have to make a reservation for dinner as all dishes are cooked to order but by this you know the food is fresh.Breakfast is excellent with a wide choice of food and beverages.
I would recommend the hotel for those who are seeking peace and quiet and a relaxing stay as it does not cater for the demands of families with children and is consequently very restful.
I used agoda.com to make my booking and the total bill for one night for 4 adults was €136 euros which included breakfast which we thought was excellent value making €34 per person.I think we must have benefitted from being off season but I always use agoda and often have a good deal.
I look forward to my next stay in this hotel which I would highly recommend.
