If you have to stay away from home for Christmas then you want it to feel special and Riverside Inn in Ely delivered on all fronts.
We were visiting relatives for the festive season and chose The Riverside Inn having walked past it on previous trips to Ely and loved the location. The inn faces the river with each of its 5 rooms offering views of the narrow boats and wildlife. On checking in we were greeted and shown to our room which was warm, large and opulently decorated with an equally large and well equipped ensuite. The king sized bed was very comfortable with excellent quality bedding. The room was large enough for a seating area next to the window providing the lovely view and TV and free wi-fi were also offered.
We hadn’t expected the basket of fruit, tasty biscuits or Nespresso coffee maker alongside the usual tea and coffee making facilities and these extras showed the thoughtfulness of the owners, an even bigger surprise was the two small bottles of Prosecco we were given on Christmas day which made an enjoyable nightcap after a long day with two excited young grandchildren.
Continental breakfast was available everyday between 8.00 and 9.30 and was taken in a small breakfast room at the rear. There was tea, freshly ground coffee, pastries, cereal, fruit, ham, cheese, toast, juices and yogurts on offer in smart surroundings with a friendly member of staff on duty.
The Inn has free parking and is conveniently situated next to a favourite restaurant of ours “Grand Central” with a pub just along the river path a short distance. The walk along the riverside is very pleasant and passes a children’s play ground, antique shop, art gallery and two other restaurants.
We would happily stay at this B&B again in the future.
