We travelled to Exmouth for lunch at the River Exe Cafe for my birthday. It wasn’t just a meal but a whole day experience! We had a leisurely drive to Exmouth and parked in the car park recommended by the restaurant. My husband has bad arthritis so can’t walk fast and so we needed quite a bit more than the ‘5 mins’ stated to get to the Harbour (it would have been useful if they advised nearest disabled bays). We didn’t know the area and there were no signs to the water taxi but after asking some locals we were pointed in the right direction. We booked for 1pm arriving at the Cafe around 1.30 after a lovely trip along the estuary to reach it. The taxi skipper advised that he would pick us up at 3.30 and not to get on any other boat. Having a two hour lunch was no problem at all, and the Cafe timed the courses brilliantly. The food was wonderful, and obviously seafood in the main. I nearly didn’t order dessert, but luckily I did as it arrived with a candle and three waitresses serenading me with “Happy Birthday”. The weather was blustery but inside it was warm and we could still enjoy the wonderful views. The sun came out towards the end and we had coffee outside waiting for the taxi to take us back. It was a lovely day from beginning to end.
