Reasons for trip

This delightful restaurant looks like a pub in a not-very-well frequented part of Christchurch, and so we had never eaten there before. But a glimpse down the side showed that they had invested in a new car park and delightfully screened al fresco dining area. They also offered a £9.95 two-course lunch which suited us perfectly.

The outside area is a mix of covered and open tables with the occasional (plastic) plant decoration. On a muggy May day it was perfect for outside eating but there are also lots of tables inside.

The main menu is long and interesting, including various banquets and a la carte Asian food, but we were happy with the limited lunch menu. The choice included starters of spring rolls, fishcakes, dumplings etc (see their website for a full list) and we shared a chicken wanton with dipping sauce that was tart and tasty, and prawns in filo pastry with a mayonnaise. Both dishes were garnished with salad leaves and we had four items each, so a good size for a first course.

Mains included prawns, chicken, beef and pork (not sure about vegetarian but I am sure that would be available.) We had a lemon grass-flavoured chicken curry with a mound of white rice and a dish of fried chicken with fresh vegetables, cashews and pineapple. Both were lovely.

My companion had a very good beer and I had a glass of cold Pinot Grigio, and the whole bill came to £28.00

Service was excellent – chatting to the waitress we told her we were Thai novices and so she brought us an extra wasabi dip to try. She also gave us two 20% off vouchers for future meals, so we will certainly be going back soon!

Lunch and dinner are different, so dress more formally and perhaps book for Friday and Saturday nights – we just walked in for mid-week lunch in jeans.
