It is now mid October and the trees are turning colour, although many seem to be losing their leaves before reaching their full glory. There are still a few blackberries around for those with sharp eyes. Most of the sloes have fallen of, although the rose hips and hawthorn berries still add a splash of colour.
A few flowering plants are struggling in the longer verges which weren’t cut last month. After all the rain I’d expected a good crop of fungi but it is a very poor year for them and all I could find were a few rather pathetic specimens.
Now the colder weather and darker nights are here, fewer people are using Ridge Walk and there has been noticeably less litter around!
