Harlow Carr in Harrogate has everything to offer those seeking some respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It offers well cared for gardens showing seasonal changes surrounding a stream, with lawned areas allowing the admirers to sit and reflect.
This is not a stuffy place. There are areas for children to play, signs to inform the gardeners and a wonderful woodland walk to guide you round the area. When we visited there was a craft fair in the garden house.
Of particular area to me were the miniature gardens showing styles through the ages from the 19 th century to today – all very well explained and informative.
A fantastic gift and plant shop completes the experience – though the prices were pretty steep!
The visit was celebrated by a coffee and cake at Betty’s famous coffee shop – fabulous service and divine coffee.
If you want to spend longer in the area there is a wonderful and short woodland walk into Harrogate Town via Valley Gardens – Harrogate in a wonderful shopping centre ( and it has another Betty’s)
I cannot recommend Harlow Carr Gardens enough – and of course it is free to RHS members.
