Reasons for trip

The old town of Rhodes dates back to medieval times, and just oozes history. We first visited it when on a cruise, and because there was so much to see, we decided to come back again, but this time for a week!

There are old city walls that surround the old town, and lots of different “gates” we usually entered through “Liberty gate” purely because this gate led you to a square where the Main Street was, and from here it was great for looking at fantastic shops.
It was very easy to get lost! The tiny streets were like a maze, and once off the Main Street it was easy to lose your bearings, as we did several times.

We visited in October, so it was pleasantly sunny and warm but not stifling hot. I’d imagine walking around in the heat of the summer sun, very hard.

There were many sites to see, but one of our favourites was when we walked on the old city walls. During late afternoons there is an opportunity to pay a small fee to walk part of the wall, and see the sheer size of the city, the amazing condition it’s in, the height of the walls, etc. Each section was fascinating, and the views amazing.
Exploring the old town at night, was a totally different experience. The pretty lights made it even more atmospheric.

If you’ve never been to Rhodes Town, it’s an absolute must! You’ll be blown away!
